It was a beautiful morning in Pennyville. The sun had just climbed above the treetops, and golden light was spilling across the cobblestone paths.

Penny stepped outside and took a deep breath. The air smelled like fresh flowers and warm bread from Milo's Market down the lane. She smoothed her yellow dress, gave her buttons a pat, and set off into the village.

Penny walks along the cobblestone path while Milo waves from the stone bridge and Sunny walks beside her with a basket of acorns

Penny, Milo, and Sunny enjoying a beautiful morning in Pennyville

"Good morning, Penny!" called Milo from the old stone bridge, waving his little grey paw. A bluebird swooped overhead, and a butterfly dipped between the flowers.

Sunny the squirrel fell into step beside her, his acorn basket swinging cheerfully. "What a perfect day for an adventure," he said, his bushy tail flicking with excitement.

Penny smiled. She loved Pennyville in the morning, when everything felt full of possibility.

She waved back at Milo and kept walking — past the bubbling stream, past the row of cozy cottages with their flower boxes, past the tall old oak tree whose roots spread wide across the grassy meadow.

That's when she saw it.

Something tiny. Something bright. Right there in the grass.

Penny stopped. She crouched down slowly, her eyes going wide. Whatever it was, it was catching the morning sun and throwing tiny sparks of light in every direction.

Penny leans close to the ground, her eyes wide with wonder, staring at a tiny golden sparkle hidden in the green grass

Penny leans in for a closer look — what could that sparkle be?

She leaned closer... and closer...

The sparkle blinked back at her from between the blades of grass. It was small — smaller than her hoof — but it was real. And it was beautiful.

Her heart gave the tiniest, most wonderful hop.
